The wrestling world is mourning the loss of a true territory legend. “Superstar” Bill Dundee has passed away at the age of 82, one of the most recognizable figures in the history of Memphis wrestling.
The news was announced by his son, Jamie Dundee, in an emotional Facebook post on Sunday morning. Jamie wrote that his father passed away at approximately 3:30 a.m., adding, “I love you Dad. I’ll catch you on the OTHERSIDE.” Wrestling podcaster and promoter Conrad Thompson also confirmed the news on social media, calling Dundee “a brilliant wrestling mind and performer for decades.”
No official cause of death has been disclosed. Jamie had revealed back in 2023 that his father was living with stage-three dementia.
A Memphis Wrestling Icon
Born William Cruickshanks in Scotland and raised in Australia, Dundee began his career as a trapeze artist in the circus before turning to professional wrestling in the 1960s. After building his name across the Australian scene, he relocated to the United States and became a central figure in the Memphis territory, competing for promotions like CWA and USWA.
Standing at just 5-foot-7, Dundee built a legendary rivalry — and occasional partnership — with fellow Memphis icon Jerry Lawler that captivated fans for decades. He held the AWA Southern Heavyweight Championship nine times and won multiple tag team titles, including two AWA World Tag Team Championship reigns alongside Lawler in 1987.
Beyond Memphis, Dundee also competed for Jim Crockett Promotions, Central States Wrestling, and Florida Championship Wrestling, and appeared in WCW during the 1990s as Sir William, managing Lord Steven Regal. He also worked extensively as a booker in Louisiana, Memphis, and Georgia.
Dundee was inducted into the Memphis Wrestling Hall of Fame in 2017, cementing his legacy in the territory he helped define.

A Bittersweet Final Bow
In a heartbreaking twist of timing, Memphis Wrestling had honored Dundee just one day before his passing, during its September 5 episode, where members of the roster came out to celebrate his career. Only weeks earlier, Jerry Lawler had publicly asked his old rival if he had one more match left in him, and Dundee had made appearances alongside Lawler and Jimmy Hart at the Tupelo SuperShow benefiting St. Jude.

A Family Steeped In Wrestling — And Loss
Dundee’s passing adds to a difficult decade for his family. His wife, Beverly, died in 2016, and his daughter Donna died in 2021, just weeks before her husband, tag team great Bobby Eaton. Jamie Dundee, who wrestled as JC Ice, also lost his own son Austin in January 2024.
