Lee didn’t hold back describing it as a “perfect storm” of problems hitting all at once during what looked, on paper, like the best year of her career.
Why WWE Came Calling Again
Lee also addressed why the company reached out to her after roughly a decade away. By her own account, timing played a big role — WWE needed a proven name to help promote a new television deal, and she says her track record of driving ratings and merchandise sales made her a natural fit.
She was quick to credit her fanbase for that reliability, noting they’ve stuck with her across every venture she’s taken on since leaving wrestling.
My Take
What stands out here isn’t whether AJ Lee comes back — it’s how deliberately she’s talking about it. She’s not chasing a nostalgia moment or cashing in on name value alone. She’s treating a potential return the same way she treated her character at her peak: something that has to mean something.
That’s a harder needle for WWE to thread than simply bringing her back for a random appearance. If they want Lee, they’ll need an actual story, not just a name on a poster.
